I'm not complaining about how my life is treating me,

I'm healthy with a lovely wife and a good family,

But years ago I planned it out and it seemed so simple to me,

By this time my life was gonna be easy.

Now the years seem like months as they go by,

And the more I try to slow things down the faster time flies.

A second marriage, a second mortgage, grandkids I hardly ever see,

This is just not how I planned my life to be.

I was gonna be a hero, famous, wise and strong,

Now I'm looking back wondering where I went wrong.

Why does everything I need to buy cost more than I have to spend,

And just as sure as I plan ahead, it's bad news at the end,

It seems the harder I work, the less I have to show,

This is just not how my life was supposed to go.
